In Balinese folklore, these rocks are said to be part of the petrified vessel of Dewi Danu, the goddess of water. The Luhur Uluwatu is certainly one of the best places to enjoy the beautiful sunsets of the island. Every evening, at sunset, in the amphitheater of the temple, the “dance of Kecak and fire” is staged: a suggestive Balinese dance in which the kidnapping of Sita and her rescue by Rama are represented and Hanuman, as described in the Ramayana. The characteristic of this dance is that the accompaniment is not performed by a Gamelan orchestra but by a choir of 40 men who repeat, in a sort of mantra, the word kecak. Return to the hotel, overnight.
